Which industries need SIA certified security officers?

12 Jun 2023 / Artisan People

The private security industry is booming and there is a big demand for security officers (aka door supervisors and security guards) who hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence.

You may associate door supervision work with evening shifts at pubs and clubs, but in fact people with an SIA door supervisor licence are sought after by a huge range of industries – some of which may surprise you.

We need SIA licenced security officers to work at museums, galleries and heritage tourist attractions in London and across the country. The majority of the work available is during the day, but many museums, galleries and tourist attractions have late regular night opening times, and most also host private events where there is a need for SIA security.

Why do you need to be SIA licensed?

The SIA was set up as a result of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Government guidance on security is very clear: “If you work in the private security industry without an SIA licence you may be breaking the law.” It is therefore a legal requirement for you to have completed the necessary training and have your SIA licence before we can find work for you as a security officer. The good news is that there is plenty of work in the security sector if you have a licence – click here to find out how to apply for an SIA.

SIA training courses

There are a number of roles in the security sector and you will need to complete the appropriate training course to get the skills required for each position. We are particularly looking for people who have undertaken the Door Supervision course and have obtained an SIA door supervisor licence.

Working with Artisan People

Our clients include some of the best known and best loved heritage visitor attractions that are popular with visitors from all over the world. Providing good security measures is a vital way of protecting the exhibitions and collections as well as safeguarding members of the public, staff and visitors, which is why SIA door supervisors are always in demand.

We offer temporary roles for security officers at visitor attractions around the country. The duties generally include front line roles such as searching bags, patrolling and guarding. You could be assigned to the main entrance, in galleries throughout the building, or in the attraction’s retail outlet. Your role will require you to be vigilant and maintain a visible presence at all times. Our roles are generally physically demanding because they will involve a lot of walking and rapid response. Popular exhibitions could involve spending time in outdoor marquees, whatever the weather.
