Fragrance Advisers – the sweet smell of temping

3 Nov 2023 / Artisan People

Do you love your perfumes? Are you looking for a way of earning money that fits around your life? If you know your florals from your woods, your parfum from your eau de Cologne, and your top notes from base ones, getting work as a Fragrance Adviser could be the answer!

What does a Fragrance Adviser do?

We recruit for temporary and permanent retail jobs with luxury fragrance brands and need people with a passion for perfume to become fragrance superstars. Successful candidates will be working for luxury brands, so exceptional service skills are a must.

You don’t need to have working experience in retail or fragrance before, but as your job will be to help customers decide on the best perfume for them, a detailed background knowledge about fragrances is a must. You will be given training in any particular brand you’re working for, and if you’re already a fan, so much the better! The greater your knowledge about the brand and its products, the more likely it is that you’ll delight your customers and smash your sales targets.

If you love your fragrances, it won’t feel like ‘work’ at all!

Luxury brands

Artisan People works with luxury fragrance brands such as Frédéric Malle, Kilian, Jo Malone and Aramis. We also work with world class department stores, providing Fragrance, Beauty and Skincare advisers for Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Harrods.

Where personality counts

When people are buying luxury brands, they want it to be an experience. Your customers will be buying a new fragrance not because they need it, but because they want to treat themselves. Therefore, as a fragrance consultant, the customer service you provide is an integral part of that process.

That’s why we’re looking for people with dazzling personalities who understand what it means to look after customers and genuinely want them to have an enjoyable shopping experience. You need to have great people skills, a positive, outgoing nature and be self-motivated and responsible. We’re looking for people who’ll always go above and beyond to delight their customers because that’s what will make them keep coming back for more.

Fragrance consultant training

Training is an important part of being an Artisan People temp. You will always receive initial induction training which will cover everything you need to know about your new assignment so you can hit the ground running as soon as you get on the shop floor. Training will cover customer service as well as brand-specific product knowledge, especially about the latest products, and training on the equipment you’ll be using.

Career progression

If you would like a career in fragrance, getting a temporary job is a great starting point as it will enable you to create your own opportunities. As you’d expect, the fragrance industry is very popular and jobs are highly sought after, so if you want to make amazing things happen, you’ve got to stand out. The beauty of it is that when you’re already working for a brand, it’s easier to get your next job because you’ve already got a foot in the door. Your supervisors and managers will have seen how hard you work and how well you’ve been doing, and will put a good word in for you.

We have many instances of temporary staff being offered permanent positions with the brands they’ve been working for. Many have made their way up the corporate ladder to achieve senior positions and experienced the sweet smell of success!

Whether you’re looking for a career in the fragrance industry, or looking for an enjoyable way of earning money that fits around your lifestyle and passion for perfume, temping as a Fragrance Ambassador is a great place to start.
