This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work for the British Museum in London as a Box Office Assistant.

The Role

As a Box Office Assistant, your main responsibility will be to provide an excellent service to individuals contacting the Box Office through delivery of a high quality sales and booking service to callers. You’ll be supporting an excellent visitor experience, achieving high levels of satisfaction from customers and maintaining up to date knowledge of the Museum, collections, events, public programme, facilities and offers in order to answer visitor queries.

You’ll also be maintaining current and accurate knowledge of all relevant plans, procedures, guidelines and standard operating procedures etc, implementing these appropriately whilst keeping a flexible approach and undertaking all duties as required of the role, using initiative where required and operating within relevant procedures.

You will be working in a busy Box Office answering phone calls, carrying out electronic point of sale and bookings duties accurately and securely, and submitting reports to a high standard in the required format and timeframe. You should actively and enthusiastically promote the visitor offer, including ticketed special exhibitions, events and Museum Membership.

How you’ll dazzle us

We are looking for a Box Office Assistant with excellent customer service and communication skills with a positive attitude to fit in a small, friendly box office team.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience of working in a busy Box Office or call centre environment, delivering a high quality customer service and experience in promoting, advocating or upselling services or products. You should also be able to complete reports and submit these electronically.

We are looking for a proactive and flexible individual with a working knowledge of ticketing/sales/membership systems as well as a desire to continually improve service and knowledge. You’ll be able to follow instructions and processes, both written and verbal, in routine and emergency situations.

A customer service superstar, you will be willing to go the extra mile to make a visitor smile. You will have sound knowledge of Microsoft-based IT systems including internet browsers and databases. Knowledge of the British Museum and its collections, as well as a First Aid qualification is a huge plus.

The contract for this role is for 5 months.
